Managing INNS

We're fortunate at Walkmill to have very few invasive non-native species (INNS). However, we remain vigilant and are actively managing the ones we do have.

Japanese Knotweed - We have a couple of small patches of this invasive plant, which we are diligently spraying each year to prevent its spread and eradicate it from the site.

Curly Waterweed - The established pond at Walkmill is home to the only recorded sighting of this invasive weed in Cumbria. We are working hard to remove it before it has a chance to spread further.

Help us to protect Walkmill

Be vigilant and aware

Because we have so few INNS, biosecurity is extremely important to us. We kindly ask all visitors to check, clean, and dry your footwear before coming to Walkmill to help us protect this special environment.

You can learn more about invasive non-native plants and what you can do to prevent their spread on the West Cumbria Rivers Trust website.
